History

Henri's Jewelry was established in 1934 by Henri Grusin.  Henri was an immigrant from Latvia. Henri's first store was in downtown Littleton on Main Street. After 20 years, Henri opened a second shop in Woodlawn Shopping Center.  Woodlawn was state of the art for shopping centers in 1955.  The new store was so popular that a few years later, he closed the downtown store.

Henri's and the Littleton community hold the Grusin name with much pride as Henri's two sons, Dave and Don Grusin have written many musical/film scores for movies. Dave won an oscar for 'The Milagro Beanfield War’ and was nominated for Academy Awards for 'Heaven Can Wait’, 'The Champ’, 'On Golden Pond’ and ’Tootsie’.

Around the mid 1960's Henri sold the business to his loyal and reliable employee, Harold Horiuchi. Harold was a volunteer ski patrol for Winter Park, since 1951. In 1988 he was inducted into the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame.  Henri Grusin passed away in 1967 at the age of 72.

Keith Tanke purchased Henri's Jewelry in 1971 and had continued Henri's fine reputation for 26 years, at which point Keith's son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Robin purchased Henri's and continues to own it today, 20 years later.

Keith Tanke's numerous years in the business, from teaching courses for the Gemological Institute of America, to his accreditation of Certified Gemologist, spent many years teaching Karl on the finer points of identifying gemstones, grading diamonds and understanding the intricacies of fine jewelry repair.  It's from this fine education and ethical teachings, that Karl Tanke strives to continue the traditions of Henri's Jewelry's dedication to great customer service, knowledgeable staff, and the highest ethics in the industry.

Henri's Jewelry is very much part of Littleton's history and we take pride in the connection we have with the community.  And are very proud of the gifts and donations we make on behalf of the greater good of all.
